Week 5: Exodus 36 to Leviticus 15

Here is this week's reading plan:

*  Weekend:  Exodus 36-40
*  Monday:  Leviticus 1-3
*  Tuesday:  Leviticus 4-6
*  Wednesday:  Leviticus 7-9
*  Thursday:  Leviticus 10-12
*  Friday:  Leviticus 13-15

In the New Testament, John 14:15 quotes Jesus:  "If you love me, obey my commandmants."

God expects obedience, and He expects us to pay attention to the details of His commands.

As we read together this week, think about how our laws and application of our laws today compares and contrasts to the laws passed down to the Hebrews in these books.

Looking very much forward to some great discussions this week!!!

God Bless,

Mike

  1. Anyone know why in Lev. 2:13 salt is so important? Why is it called the 'salt of the covenant'? Is that also the background of Jesus' words in Matt. 5:13 / Luke 14:34?

  2. I think it is metaphorical- salt giving a pleasing taste as well as having qualities of preservation of meat.

    God's covenant/promise is good (as it should be) and it preserves us (keeps us from spoiling).

    Why add it to grain? I suppose why not...? If God commands it, then it should be done... I almost want to equate this with God's command to Abraham to sacrifice his son- it made no sense on the surface, but the test was faith and obedience, not the actual sacrifice itself.

    Just picking thoughts out of the air- I am sure there is much more to the cultural relevance of salt... Chuck???
